My Governmental body client, based in central London is seeking to recruit a WordPress specialist on an initial 6-month contract at a day rate of 500-550.

As a senior WordPress specialist, you will be designing and building web systems, as well as iterating existing systems that make a genuine difference to people's lives. You'll make sure we build things the right way, keep live services running, and stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends, whilst delivering working software early and often. You'll be helping us transform Government for the future, by iterating our acclaimed open-source public services, as well as developing new ones, with user needs at the heart of everything. You'll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, helping define how we do what we do, and making sure that our systems are built to be changed rapidly.

Candidates must have Wordpress, PHP, MySQL, Frontend and Background HTML, JavaScript, doc

Technologies and skills:

You'll have demonstrable experience in designing user-centred digital services, and in agile development of digital solutions with rapid prototyping and continuous improvement using:

  • WordPress (up to latest version) - with good WP Codex knowledge.
  • Web application development and deployment skills including LAMP server administration and configuration, with a particular focus on WordPress nuances.
  • Advanced WordPress development (custom themes & plugins), Responsive/Mobile WP websites
  • Understanding of version control (ideally with Git)
  • Awareness of automated testing techniques, modern deployment approaches and how AWS cloud infrastructure is managed.
  • Experience with modern object-oriented PHP 7 and MySQL
  • Front-end technologies including responsive design, HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript (incl. jQuery, Vue.js)
  • Experience with developing custom WordPress Gutenberg blocks is desirable
  • Experience with docker is desirable

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • Practical experience of Linux platform development
  • Experience of CMS migrations
  • Expertise in open source principles, platforms and languages
  • An active interest in new digital technologies and continuous education
