Senior Data Engineer

The Role

A unique opportunity to join a talented and exceptional team of Engineers and Data Scientists. Principally, you'll be responsible for writing highly performant and scalable code that will run on their Big Data Platform: Scala / Hive / Impala / Hadoop. Additionally, you will be working alongside the Data Science team support them in the ETL process.

The Team

This high-profile team work on ground-breaking problems in health outcomes across disease areas including Ophthalmology, Oncology, Neurology, Chronic diseases (such as diabetes), and a variety of very rare conditions. The Predictive Analytics team works hand-in-hand with statisticians, epidemiologists and disease area experts across the company.

Relevant Experience

  • Bachelors or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
  • Strong analytic and statistical skills
  • Previous experience in machine learning and statistical roles
  • Solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, using Test Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration (CI)
  • Experience refactoring code with scale and production in mind.

Relevant Skills

  • Strong understanding of Scala, SQL, and Java
  • Expertise in Apache Spark, Hive/Impala, and HDFS
  • Familiar with Python, Git, Jenkins, JUnit, Unix/Linus, and ScalaTest
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB
  • Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources
  • Experience with any of the following distributions of Hadoop - Cloudera/MapR/Hortonworks.

Desired Skills

  • Proficiency in other languages wuch as Haskell and Clojure
  • Big Data Machine Learning toolkits such as Mahout, SparkML and H2O
  • Experience with Apache Kafka, Apache Ignite, and Druid
  • Container technologies such as Docker
  • Cloud Platforms technologies such as DCOS / Marathon / Apache Mesos, Kubernetes, and Apache Brooklyn.
  • Previous work experience working in health / clinical research industry.
