Job Purpose/Summary:
The Scrum Master role will take responsibility for the efficient delivery of a series of projects using Agile project methodology. The scrum Master will be responsible for developing the scrum approach within teams and in educating the business stakeholders in scrum. They will also be required to work collaboratively with the business to ensure a clear pipeline of products and to manage the prioritisation and delivery of these products to meet the business needs.
Main Accountabilities/Purpose
To construct, coach and manage a multi skilled team to deliver against a backlog of products as agreed with the Product Owner
To measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and to take corrective action as necessary to ensure a productive throughput from the team
Work with the team to identify impediments and then work with the business to remove them
Help the team assess their Scrum Maturity and guide to achieve higher levels of maturity
To set the standards for agile delivery from their team
1 to 1 and team coaching
Meetings / Ceremonies
To run the daily stand ups and to take any follow up actions from the stand ups
To attend the scrum of scrum stand ups on behalf of the team
To attend any other meetings required to inform on team activity
Product Backlog
To work with the Product Owner in constructing, breaking down and prioritising the product backlog
To prepare for and expedite the sprint planning process
Coaching product owners in the role of a PO
Managing business stakeholders expectations and feeding back on progress
Learning and Teaching
Provide training to the team on Agile development and agree on approach
Educate the business in adapting to an agile mind-set
Coaching the team on technology practices
Keeping abreast of and introducing hot topics
Working with other scrum masters to ensure a consistency in the application of agile
Making time for learning
Be responsible for completing all mandatory training and to do so within required timescales
Job Dimension/Scope:
The Scrum Master will have responsibility for the effective operation of a scrum of up to 8 people and dependent on experience may at times have multiple scrum teams to manage.
Whilst not directly responsible for a project budget, the Scrum Master is responsible for managing the deliverables and timelines for projects and is therefore directly responsible for the major cost elements of a project.
Travel will be required between the 3 offices (Salisbury, Milton Keynes and Bristol).
Most duties will be performed within the normal working day but on occasion there will be a requirement to work outside of these hours to complete tasks and meet deadlines. This role requires enhanced vetting as per the Referencing and Staff Vetting Policy.
